Ferguson Reading Series: Mike Nelson

Welcome back to The Ferguson Reading and open mic! In case you're new, The Ferguson Reading is our monthly poetry reading and open mic night, named after founder, teacher and writer, John Ferguson. The Ferguson is held each month on the second Wednesday (Sept-May) and features a reading from a local or regional poet first, then an open mic opportunity. People are encouraged to bring one or two poems, and to arrive early to sign up. We welcome readers of all ages and experience levels, though note that some of the content may not be appropriate for younger listeners.

Our featured poet for September is Mike Nelson, current Poet Laureate of Portsmouth. Mike has been hanging around the poetry scene of Portsmouth and the Seacoast for almost twenty years. He’s published three books and has participated in many reading and events. Mike is the organizer and host of Beat Night at The Press Room and the founder of Tribe Poetry Project. He’s passionate about amplifying the creative voices in our community, especially those that struggle to be heard. For more info on Mike go to tribepoetry.org. (From the Portsmouth Poet Laureate website.)
