Join us for an event with local author and self-described "typewriter apprentice" Murray Segal!
The year is 2016, but you wouldn’t know it if you walked into Murray Segal’s typewriter shop. The machines are a throwback to a bygone era, much like Murray himself.
A mysterious old Underwood gives Murray a chance to play detective, but when he is visited by dangerous men who make him an offer he can’t refuse, the peril is very real.
Murray and his wife Janice find themselves on the run in northern Maine, their lives at stake. But that doesn’t mean they can’t make the most of their undercover lives, enjoy a good meal, and retell old jokes in the way that only a long-married couple can.
Still, the mystery of the typewriter looms, and Murray and Janice must unlock its secret before the past catches up with them.
Murray Segal is a long time resident of the Seacoast, moving from Rye to Stratham, and then a few years ago to Exeter where he lives with his wife and editor, Janice Wayne. He had a long career mostly in engineering and finally as an expert witness on Collision Reconstruction in many states including Alaska. He also sold antiques and operated a typewriter business. About a year ago, he started working on his first novel, a mystery based upon a typewriter that was in Enrico Fermi's laboratory at Columbia University in WWII. The book, The Million Dollar Typewriter was published in July. He has since completed four additional mystery novels.
